Short Takes

In light of TV kind of blowing lately, the blog’s been a little quiet. So let's get the ball rolling...

After a lackluster pilot, Bionic Woman keeps getting better and better with Friday Night Lights headwriter Jason Katims at the helm. And I love Starbuck with her crazy eyes and sneer of a smile.

Speaking of FNL, I'm sticking by it, murder and all.

Private Practice has made me cry three times. Plus, it’s like 30% less whiney than Grey’s Anatomy.

Aliens in America is fearlessly honest and laugh-out-loud funny. It’s my favorite thing on the CW, though the only other thing I’m watching is Gossip Girl. Yes, I just admitted that.

My Name is Earl and 30 Rock are even better than last year. Sadly, a full hour of The Office is a bit too much (though this week was leaps and bounds beyond the last few episodes).

Dirty Sexy Money is full of glittery, broken characters that I adore after only a handful of episodes.

Degrassi feels like déjà vu, but it’s funny déjà vu with awesomely bad hair.

The best part of Reaper is the Devil. The worst part of Chuck is Morgan. Captain Awesome is a close second.

Pushing Daisies is too quirky/precious for its own good, but Ned's a dreamboat.

I really don’t believe Ted would include so many sex stories in the ongoing tale of How I Met Your Mother.

And I hope Kristen Bell's superpower is keeping me awake during Heroes.

Patron Saint, you beat me to the season recap post! Here are my mostly similar thoughts...

Bionic couldn't keep me.

FNL is FNL, and even in bad days, is far better than most on TV.

Aliens in America - really glad it could transcend a really tricky premise, especially on the CW.

DS$ is good but I want more from it - it's mediocre with some good moments, but could be golden if it just didn't censor itself. Plus, the who-killed-Nick's-dad plotline is stupid.

30 Rock is awesome this season. Less awesome this season are The Office and How I Met Your Mother. (memo: less airtime for The Office, more slap bets for How I Met Your Mother, please). Still awesome this season is It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Worst part of Reaper is Andi the love interest. Best part of Chuck is Adam Baldwin (duh). And Chuck himself. I could use about 200% less Morgan and my life would be about 200% better.

Pushing Daisies' third episode made me believe that the show actually had some longevity in it. Plus, Emerson Cod and his knitted gun cozies are awesome.

I love Jillian and Bob and hate Kim on The Biggest Loser.

And who knew Jenny Humphries rocked that much. B & S, watch your backs - I think the Upper East Side has seen a new Mean Girl, and her name is J (and not as in Miss or Mr.)

And has anyone else noticed that Ugly Betty is not nearly the hit everyone else thinks it is? Their numbers are pretty dismal. It's like they pulled the Prada and Chanel labeled wool products over our very eyes.

Have you seen the article about how the Hollywood heads are secretly wanting the strike, because that means the strike will kill their mediocre shows and they don't have to be the assholes to lower the ax. Interesting theory, I must say...

The second best part of Chuck is the opening credits. The second worst? The underuse of Baldwin.
