Did you know that Columbus Short (AKA Darius, the non-threatening black emo writer on Studio 60) is currently starring in the kickass new step movie, Stomp the Yard? Yeah, I thought it was weird too, which led to the question, "Is he an actor who can dance or a dancer who can act?" A quick perusal of the internet revealed that he choreographed Britney Spears 2004 tour.
And that's when it hit me. He's this dude:
Before K-Fed, there was the OTHER back-up dancer/expectant father the paparazzi caught Britney kissing. My mind is completely blown. Rather than disappear into whatever oblivion backup dancers who make out with Britney Spears are supposed to inhabit, he's managed to land on an "important" TV show. What does this mean for K-Fed's future? What does this mean for any of us?

I learn something new everyday, and usually it's from this blog. For instance, this news is AMAZING. Also amazing? The poster for Stomp the Yard, which I saw for the first while going up an escalator at the Hollywood & Highland complex (don't ask why I was there) and I nearly turned around and went right back down the escalator to make sure I saw this poster correctly. The best thing about the poster which automatically makes the movie worth seeing? Two words: TRUTH UNIVERSITY.
Q
Sorkin/Schlamme shows (or aleast their casting directors: Francine Maisler for Studio 60 and John Levey/Kevin Scott for The West Wing and even back to Sports Night) seem to have had a history of interesting casting coming from alternate performance avenues. Dule Hill, you may remember originally studied tap dance and was a member of the original cast of Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk. Lawrence O'Donnell (who played Jeb Bartlet's father) was a writer/producer who had never acted before, and numerous stage actors has made their film/television debut through Schlamme/Sorkin series. Possibly something to do with Sorkin's roots as a playwright and most of his scene/teleplay construction being very stageplay-ish.
Wow. I probably should have edited that. Curse you dyslexia!
I actually saw Bring in Da Noise Bring in Da Funk when Dule was in the cast. But he was off that night. So I didn't actually see Dule. So that wasn't really much of a story.
If either K-Fed or that Jason Alexander dude show up as Tom's heroic younger brother, I'm gonna be pissed. Even if he's missing a limb, which he probably will be. Ooh! Maybe he'll be missing the ability to laugh and Tom's dad will have to eat crow upon the realization that the previously worthless elder son is the only one who can save his baby brother.
And then those displaced jazz musicians can play them a song.
